The DRY, the DULL, the HISTORY.
Unconventional, but that's who I am!
Experienced!
Big Corporate World: Seagram Distillers in management training program and management positions in New York, California and New Mexico. Left the company to pursue other ventures when promotion involved moving back to New York and home office at 375 Park Avenue Seagram Building, NYC.
Mid-size Corporate World includes serving as head of marketing, building John Kemper Insurance, a division that provided insurance and data services to banks nationally. Division was sold to Gulf+Western in 1981 with over 400 banks in 41 states under contract. Saw the potential to expand an old ‘single interest’ insurance product into a totally new ‘dual interest’ policy to better protect lenders and borrowers.
Chase-Durer Watch Company, Geneva and Beverly Hills: Designed and developed comprehensive marketing plans including watch design (12 models), print advertising - branding, dealer support and response, outdoor, direct mail and internet.
Small company and start-ups: Since 1982 partnered and/or provided contract services for several start-ups including networking, consulting, marketing and web development businesses. Co-founded Black Belt Programming in 1995, incorporated in 1999 (Nevada). Black Belt (www.BBelt.com), a web and traditional media marketing company, continues to handle clients assisting with web marketing, design, and development in addition to print and collateral materials.
Product Areas
Over past 10 years, most client work has involved internet design, marketing, advertising, affiliates and ecommerce. Coverage includes mainstream products, services and adult resort travel companies.
Partnered with CinemaNow.com in 2001 on providing high quality movie downloads to niche markets. Revolutionary concept was to targets with ability to find and rent-on-line DVD quality, specific portions of the videos and view for 30 days. All other services were full length only and one 24 hours period per rental. Today, this is the defacto standard. While underfunding resulted in our inability to capture a significant portion of the marketplace, our innovative concepts are in use in virtually all video sites today.
Seeing the value of affiliate programs, we have also been active in development of several major travel website associate programs.
Electronic Marketing Savvy
In the mid 90’s it became evident that the adult internet business models were a driving force behind not only the growth of the internet but the development and proving of many new products later adapted by mainstream commerce. While many such products can be mentioned, the affiliate product was probably the most influential. During that time, consulting with dozens of adult companies, many of whom embraced the true affiliate marketing model it became evident that ‘sharing’ the profitability on a per sale basis rather than the traditional brand building print and TV advertising approach was the wave of the future.
Corporate "ego" thinking that the products ‘sell themselves’ may be the biggest lesson that Corporate America still has to learn. And, while no single approach solves any one brand building campaign, the newer and more innovative techniques are becoming more important daily. Key word advertising, banner advertising, print advertising, etc are all good (and necessary) steps. Those more traditional (can you believe I just said keyword and banners advertising are ‘traditional’?) vehicles must be supported by the many fingers of the affiliate program to broaden the reach.
